BTS RM Dubbed the 'Savior of Korean Literature' By Acclaimed Writer & Translator

On February 6, 2024, Deema Abu Naser shared a small snippet from an interview she had with Korean-American translator and author Anton Hur during a panel at the Emirates Literature Festival. The event was held on February 5, 2024.

During the interview, Anton Hur recalled coming across a book by Lee Seong Book about aphorisms about his poetics titled "Indeterminate Inflorescence." He immediately loved the book, but recalled that he felt no one would publish it because no one would allow him to translate a book about Korean poetics.

However, he found a publisher in Seatle willing to publish the book. A month before the English version of the book was supposed to hit shelves, RM took to social media to post about his love for the original version of the book by Lee Seong Book.

Anton recalls how grateful he was that RM posted the book online. Once the English version was released, the book sold out. Until now, the book has continued to fly off the shelves.

Anton recalls how this book was not a hit in Korea — in fact, it flew under the radar. If you were to mention it to someone, they would ask who Lee Seong Book is or be surprised that he wrote a book about aphorisms. This proves RM's influence — international ARMYs allowed this book to become a hit!

Anton Hur announced that he has a deal with Lee Seong Book's poetry collection, "That Summers End," which RM also posted on social media in the past.

He revealed how thankful he is to RM for "saving Korean literature." He also thanked ARMYs for taking part in "saving Korean literature."

On December 11, 2023, RM enlisted for his mandatory military service. Currently, he is carrying out his service as an active duty soldier.
