On March 5, 2024, reports surfaced claiming Taemin's departure from SM Entertainment.

As per an exclusive report by Sports News, Taemin has opted to sign an exclusive deal with BPM (Big Planet Made) Entertainment after his contract with SM Entertainment is over.

EXO Baekhyun Draws Backlash Following Reports That SHINee Taemin Is Leaving SM Entertainment

On March 5, 2024, a post titled "The reason why Taemin's fans are pissed at EXO Baekhyun right now" was posted in a popular South Korean online community forum.

The post came after it was reported that Taemin chose to leave SM Entertainment after being advised and influenced by close friend Baekhyun of EXO, who left SM Entertainment and established his own agency to handle his solo activities.

Fans of Taemin were already upset by Taemin's departure from SM Entertainment. This is because the company has consistently allowed Taemin to release chart-toppers and earworm songs. They claim none of his solo comebacks have flopped, and that is because of how well SM Entertainment knows Taemin's image.

Reports claimed that Taemin would be signing with MC Mong's agency, BPM Entertainment (also known as Big Planet Made). Previously, MC Mong was accused of trying to evade mandatory military service by pulling out healthy teeth. He was also previously accused of fraud.

It is also speculated that MC Mong has tried to poach the EXO members from SM Entertainment. Following Baekhyun's establishment of INB100, people speculate that MC Mong may have a share in the agency.

Since it was reported that Taemin only signed with BPM Entertainment after being influenced by Baekhyun, fans of the SHINee member are slamming the latter for his actions. They claimed that if Baekhyun hated the company, he should have left quietly instead of trying to get his former labelmates to also leave the company.
