After Amanda Bynes' Twitter rants and trouble with the law, America's Got Talent host Nick Cannon has voiced his concern for the scarlet he formerly worked with at Nickelodeon.

As a guest on the Howard Stern Show on Tuesday, Nick, 32, shared what it was like to write for Amanda, who he once considered to be "like a sister."

At age 17, Nick, the husband of Mariah Carey, was hired by Nickelodeon to perform various duties like writing for the "Amanda Show." He was the youngest writer in history to work at the kid's network.

"I wrote for Amanda when she had her show...That was like my little sister," said Cannon. "Now, to see her like that, it was sad."

He recalled the memory he had of her when she was in her adolescence.

"To see someone you'd seen at nine, running around with a snotty nose, and now to see her like that is like, 'Wow,' man!"

The AGT host said he made an attempt to get in touch with Bynes but he didn't have any luck.

"I tried to reach out but she doesn't have any of her old managers," Nick said. "You get caught up in your head and don't trust anyone...you go crazy."

Cannon's heart goes out to kids trying to survive in the entertainment world. He is grateful that he wasn't born into the fame.

"It's sad what this industry does to people, especially kids. Because, I have been in this since I was young. Luckily, I had a normal life before entertainment. I grew up in the hood. I was bullied. I grew up in a gang neighborhood."

Nick added that the importance of parental guidance can be an ingredient necessary to surviving in this business as a youth.

"In this industry where kids come up as the breadwinner, and their making the financial decisions, it is bound to go wrong. Because, at some point, you are going to need your parents to tell you no. And it happened from everyone from Amanda Bynes to Michael Jackson, no one will tell them 'no.'"
