On March 5, 2024, Karina uploaded a handwritten apology to her Instagram after it was confirmed she was dating actor Lee Jae Wook.

In her apology, she apologized for shocking people with her dating news. In her letter, she expressed how sorry she was for disappointing and causing sadness to MYs (aespa's fanbase). She acknowledged how much her fans have supported her and expressed her desire to mend the wounds of the precious people she hurt.

I understand how disappointed and sad MYs, who have been supporting me all this time, must have felt. Knowing your feelings, I feel even more sorry.

I decided to write this letter in the hopes of expressing my feelings, even if it's just a little bit. Even though I'm worried about possibly hurting you again, I want to sincerely apologize to the fans who have given me so much warmth since my debut. In the future, I hope to heal the wounds that MYs may have received. I've always been genuine with MYs, and each and every one of you is incredibly precious to me.

I know this letter might not be enough to express everything I feel, but thank you for reading it. Moving forward, I won't let MYs down and will work even harder to show you a more mature side of me during promotions. Please continue to support me.

On April 11, 2024, a post titled "Karina took down her apology as a birthday commemoration" was shared on the popular South Korean online community forum Nate Pann.

In the post, the original poster noted that Karina took down her handwritten apology on her birthday, April 11. The OP criticized Karina for her decision to delete the apology, stating that by taking it down, it makes her actions look performative. The OP also wondered why she was making a fuss over dating someone for such a short time.

They also stated that it looks like she doesn't care about her fans and that deleting the apology is pointless since the title "Lee Jae Wook's ex-girlfriend" will always follow her.

Korean netizens who saw the post had different reactions, however.

People believed that since they broke up, there was no point in keeping the apology up on her Instagram. Others noted that it was odd that she issued an apology in the first place, so it is understandable why she wanted to take it down.

Many also stated it was more respectful of her to delete the apology in regards to Lee Jae Wook. This way, comments about their relationship decrease.
