OUYA Console Sold Out: $99 Android-Based Open-Source Gaming Device Already Out Of Stock In GameStop, Amazon

Ouya console sold out already after hitting the market on Tuesday.

According to CNET, the Android-based Ouya console is already sold out in Amazon and Gamestop just hours  after its market release this Tuesday, June 25 in US, Canada and UK. The Ouya console is also available in different retail shops and online stores such as Best Buy and Target.

Mashable reported that Amazon was already informing the customers that Ouya console is "temporarily out of stock", while Gamestop noted that it was "currently unavailable."

Ouya console is an open-source gaming device which became a huge hit on Kickstarter. Unlike its competitors such as the forthcoming Microsoft Xbox One and Playstation 4, the funds to pursue the development and production of Ouya console came from fans and independent investors who donated using the KickStarter service.

CNET also reported that even though Ouya console may not have the strong specifications to match up with Sony Playstation 3 or Xbox One, its Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset makes it easier for the game developers to make their mobile titles compatible with Ouya console.

Ouya stated that the console now has at least 170 downloadable games, free to try. It also comes with a built-in software development kit to enable users to create and test their own games right from the Ouya console itself. Aside from game titles, Ouya console also offers streaming apps such as XBMC, iHeartRadio and Plex.

Julie Uhrman, the CEO of Ouya and co-foudner said in a statement made on Tuesday, "Today, Ouya is real." Furthermore, Uhrman said, "It's incredible to think that a little under a year ago Ouya was just an idea -- we wanted to do something completely new in console gaming: build a $99 game console, with no discs to buy, open to all developers, and affordable to all gamers."

Ouya console may already be sold out now in popular online shopping sites like Amazon and Gamestop but interested gamers can still try to get their own unit from Target and Best Buy. Ouya console is worth $99 and the cost for additional controllers is $49.99 each.
