Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev split in part because of the Fifty Shades of Gray casting, it has been revealed.

It's been revealed that Somerhalder will not play Christian Gray...which, curiously enough, may mean that they'll be getting back together.

While in talks for the 50 Shades of Grey Film, producers said that his chances might be better for the movie if he were single.

After all, Christian Gray is a sex symbol. Knowing that the person who played him is in a stable long-term relationship might make the role less believable-or less lust-able. And that could hurt box office ratings.

Thus, the two may have broken up in part because Somerhalder wanted the role. So now that he's out...does that mean they're back together? Or would his dumping her after a three-year relationship for a possible role-no matter how huge-- mean she loathes him more?

Or....wait, was the split all an act for producers to make them think he was single?!

The couple have been awkward together in public and at "Vampire Diaries" shots....but also amicable.

Somehalder recently posted some cryptic Tweets about women and a pic of himself and Dobrev to his Instagram...so he might be trying to get her back. Dobrev is certainly on his mind, anyway.

He said on Twitter on July 18,
