Microsoft Surface Pro Reviews, News, Rumors: Hardware Quality Receives High Praise, Nvidia Confirms Next Generation Of Tablet In-Development

The Microsoft Surface Pro has received high praise from tech reviewers for its amazing and classy look. Online publication Business IT (Bit) of Australia said that the tablet PC oozes class and the metallic grey-body feels smooth to the touch.

In a report by CNET, Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang confirmed that a Microsoft Surface 2 is in the works. The executive from the Microsoft company partner also said that Outlook is coming to the new Surface.

“It’s the killer app for Windows,” Huang told CNET. “Now we’re going to bring it with the second-generation Surface. We’re working really hard on it, and we hope that it’s going to be a big success.”

Bit noted that combination of chamfered edges and rounded edges makes for a device that looks every inch the luxury tablet it seems to be.

AOL’s Gadling blog said that the tablet PC is solid and durable, while the materials used to build the tablet is lightweight, rugged and is a real aesthetic pleaser. According to the blog, whose writer took the tablet PC to a backpacking trip in Australia, the device was able to held up to the abuse of travel.

The connectivity options for the new Surface Pro are also very helpful and makes it work well as a portable computer, the single USB 3 port, a microSD slot, a 3.5mm headset jack and a mini-DisplayPort output is available in the unit. And though it doesn’t have an Ethernet socket, Microsoft made amends by squeezing in dual-band 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4, according to Bit.

Bit noted that though the battery life maybe too short for this one and that it wasn’t impressed with the device’s cameras, the Surface Pro is a great choice for individuals who wants full Windows compatibility in a handy device.

Struggling sales numbers for Surface, bad reviews

ABC News reported that based on the numbers, not as much people have purchased the company’s flagship tablet device, contrary to what Microsoft is saying. Although both gadgets contributed $863 million in revenue during the quarter to the tech company, the Redmond tech giant took a $900 million write-down due to unsold inventory and higher than expected related expense.

Analysts argue that Windows 8 lukewarm reception in the market impacted the sales of the device.

"Both products really suffered from the poor reception of Windows and even poorer reception to Windows RT," said Ross Rubin, principal analyst for Reticle Research, speaking with ABC News.

"A lot of the challenge at this point is the consumer reception to Windows 8 and Microsoft trying to make the case for something being a tablet and a PC."

Apple, on the other hand, kept its Mac laptops separate from its iPad line of tablets. Apple’s CEO Tim Cook said that combining them would be like meshing a toaster and a refrigerator.
