Katie Couric got engaged to her financier boyfriend John Molner over the Labor Day weekend. Katie Couric, 56, and John Molner, 50, share many things in common, including similar ages.

"We're having a great time. He's really funny and very successful in his own right. In a different line of work. A little more age appropriate," Couric told USA Today.

Couric was alluding to her previous boyfriend, entrepreneur Brooks Perlin. Her ex-boyfriend Perlin was 17 years younger than Couric, ABC News reports, at 39 years old. Couric also dated trumpeter Chris Botti, who is five years younger than the talk show host.

"He's six younger than I am," Couric said, referring to her now-fiance John Molner. "But hey, I've got a lot of energy, you know. I need someone who can keep up with me!"

Katie's fiance is head of mergers and acquisitions at Brown Brothers Harriman. He popped the question with a diamond ring at sunset on the beach in East Hampton, New York, reports People.com. Katie and John had been dating for almost two years.

According to People, Katie Couric didn't respond right away when Molner proposed.

"It took me a while to say yes, because I was so confused!" Couric said. "It took a long time for my brain to process what was going on."

Another thing the couple have in common besides their age? John Molner is based in Chicago, the same city where Couric's parents met, ABC News reports.

"It's always had a special place in my heart," Couric told USA Today in May of Chicago, ABC News reports.  "I love Midwesterners."

The second season of Couric's talk show, "Katie," premieres on Monday. We're guessing she's going to be showing off her beautiful engagement ring, and talk about being engaged.

Couric, a mother of two, lost her husband Jay Monahan to colon cancer in 1998.

According to USA Today, in the February issue of More magazine, Katie admitted, "It's actually surprising to me that it has been almost 15 years and I haven't remarried. I think life is more fun when you have someone in your life."
