Samsung Galaxy Gear Smartwatch: 4 Reasons Korean Manufacturer's Smartwatch Will Fail, Should You Buy It?

A lot of people have been waiting for Samsung to unveil its first ever smartwatch named the Galaxy Gear. However, their reasons may not be what the Korean manufacturer has in mind.

People waited for the device not because they want to buy it, but just to make sure they get to see what a prototype looks like. If you are still not convinced why the Galaxy Gear will certainly be a flop, here are some reasons:

1. It was rushed

Thank goodness the Galaxy Gear did not appear like the photo leaked before the IFA event. Still, the device looks far from impressive when you see certain details. According to some tech bloggers, the device is just to bulky for a watch which is supposed to be comfortable to wear and use. This just shows that Samsung manufactured it not to reinvent the niche, but just to be part of an already existing field.

2. It did not introduce any 'revolutionary' features

As what Michael Grothaus of Know Your Mobile points out, in order to get the attention of its target market, Samsung should have introduced a number of new features which would keep them interested. As it turned out the smartwatch only manages to 'wow' people on the initial stage. Once a person buys it, he will eventually notice that nothing is added to the convenience in making calls, composing text messages, etc.

3. It was presented as a smartphone accessory

When seen from afar, the Galaxy Gear may indeed make life easier for people who will buy it. But if you think about it, you can only maximize its features if you connect to a smartphone. It just means it cannot stand on its own. Why would someone buy a device that can just do what his smartphone does?

4. The battery life is disappointing

What is a watch's main function? Tell time, and look good doing it. The Galaxy Gear is a watch, yet it would not be able to tell you the time for more than 24 hours a day, and that's if you are going to use it for 'light use' only. Once you use it for emails, messages and calls more often, it might not last for 18 hours.

Samsung has clearly gone too far with its rivalry with Apple with this one. In this industry, it's not who launches the first device. What matters is what device actually lasts and makes an impact in the market.
