Angelina Jolie Hailed As The Youngest Recipient Of The Governors Award For Her Film And Philanthropic Contributions

Only four have been chosen to receive the honorary Governors Awards this coming November 16 at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at the Hollywood and Highland Center.

These are celebrities Angelina Jolie, Steve Martin, and Angela Lansbury as well as Italian costume designer Piero Tosi.

The Governors Awards sponsored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences are Oscar statuettes presented to individuals who have made significant impacts in the film industry. Of this year's recipients, Jolie is the youngest at 38. She has been chosen for her Oscar-winning performance in 'Girl, Interrupted' and her directorial stint for 'In the Land of Blood and Honey'.

The actress will be honored with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, a recognition deserved by those whose humanitarian works have brought praises to the industry.

The 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' star is currently the goodwill ambassador of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees. She has traveled extensively to raise awareness for pertinent social issues.

Cheryl Boone Isaacs, the award-giving academy's new president, expressed her excitement for paying tribute to the chosen individuals: "We couldn't be more excited for this year's honorees and look forward to bringing their peers and colleagues together to celebrate their extraordinary achievements."

Apart from Jolie, 68-year-old Martin will likewise be honored for his roles in 'The Jerk' and 'Pink Panther'. Lansbury, 87, will also be awarded for her significant appearances in 'Gaslight', 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' and 'The Manchurian Candidate'.

The last honoree is 86-year-old Tosi whose exquisite costume creations have been widely acknowledged in 'White Nights', 'The Leopard' and 'Death in Venice'.

Last year, four have been also hailed as the academy's recipients including Dream Works Animation executive Jeffrey Katzenberg, documentarian D.A. Pennebaker, arts advocate George Stevens Jr., and veteran stuntman Hal Needham.
