YouTube Music Awards 2013 are set to take place on November 3, 2013 at Pier 36 in New York. The rumors about YouTube awards started circulating late Sunday and final confirmation came within hours on YouTube’s Official Blog.

The soon to take place and much-anticipated event will have headline acts by Lady Gaga, Eminem and Arcade Fire, along with performances by internationally acclaimed artists. Actor Jason Schwartzman will host the 90-minute show that will be streamed live for audiences around the world on YouTube.
In the coming days, Google will release more information about the nominations, tickets, etc.

Talking of nominations and award decisions, the official blog said, “In mid-October, YouTube Music Awards Nominations will be announced based on the videos that you watched and shared over the past year. We’ll then call on you to determine the songs and artists honored, by sharing the nominees across social media so the awards are judged in full view of everyone.”

What more, it is going to be one run-up-to-the awards month with lots of social media frenzy that will involve the nominees sharing their “official music videos, covers, parodies, concerts, interviews and fan videos on YouTube” to woo you and get your vote. All this under the expert direction of Spike Jonze, the creative director for the awards.

Music industry and media reacted diversely over the announcement; While a certain segment has welcomed the awards and said it was long overdue, given YouTube’s popularity amongst the music lover, others think that it would be just another award show, however, by a biggie in the music industry.

The Awards are already being counted in the league of popular music awards like MTV Awards, Grammy’s, Billboard Latin Music Awards, etc. The reason is simple enough: YouTube boasts of massive audience around the globe and sponsors are already trying to be a part of the mega music event.
