Simone Biles, Kyla Ross Become First African American And Asian American Gymnasts To Win All-Around World Medals: Watch Their Routines Now!

The 2013 World Gymnastics Championships is nearing its end, and Simone Biles and Kyla Ross dominated the all-around competition by becoming the first African American and Asian American to win all-around medals.

It was a battle of grace versus power, and while Kyla Ross excelled on execution and grace, Simone Biles overpowered the competition. Literally.

In the end, Simone Biles triumphed by earning 60.216 points from vault, beam, floor exercise, and uneven bars, winning the gold all-around over Kyla Ross, who earned 59.332.

"It feels pretty good, but it hasn't really sunk in yet," says Biles on her win.

"It's so exciting to come to this individual worlds and win a medal for myself," says Ross. "After London I really went back in the gym and worked hard, so this is really something I've been working for, and it's exciting to have paid it."

According to the Gymnastics Examiner, Simone Biles is the first African American to take the all-around gold at world championships, even though Gabby Douglas has achieved similar claim by winning the all-around at the 2012 Olympics.

Not only that, Kyla Ross is the first Asian American to medal in the all-around at a world championship as well.
