‘X-Men Days Of Future Past [Full TRAILER]; New Characters Never Before Seen On the Screen Include Bishop, Blink

The new trailer for “X-Men: Days of Future Past” features characters that have yet to appear on screen. The rundown of these characters will follow.

These characters are from the other mutant teams in the Mutant Universe. One of them is particularly significant. Bishop, in the ‘X-canon’ (what they call the Mutant Universe) is a character from the future. He is also a mutant, and in his world, the X-Men are legends. However, they are fallen legends.

The world is in total war. Mankind versus mutantkind. He is the one who warns what is supposed to be the present day X-Men (the ones from the trilogy, Wolverine, Storm, Rogue and the old Professor X and Magneto) about what was to come. He tells the story of how they (X-Men) will ultimately fail in their current battle with the Sentinels. It is his suggestion of using time-travel to stop the Sentinels from being created, hence, the plot for ‘Days of Future Past.’

Blink is a relatively new character in the comic, meaning she hasn’t been created when the original ‘Days of Future Past’ storyline of Chris Claremont hit the comics. She is a fan favorite who was introduced in “The Phalanx Covenant” storyline. As part of the liberty granted to Bryan Singer, he can choose which characters to feature. Blink has the power to teleport, similar to Nightcrawler who is not featured in the movie. Perhaps they found two blue and hideous looking but humorously charming characters redundant (Beast being the other).

Sunspot is a member of the New Mutants. They were like a ‘junior X-Men’ and used to stay in Xavier’s School. Later on, they were taken under the tutelage of Cable and renamed the group was renamed the X-Force. Sunspot’s powers are to absorb solar energy (turning him all black) enabling him to fly and have super strength, while having a yellow force-field like aura about him when he activates his powers. We have yet to see how that effect appears on film.

Warpath is the younger brother to short-lived X-Man Thunderbird. They were Native American brothers (remember the diversity directive?) with super strength. He was first a villain for the New Mutants since he hated the X-Men, blaming them for his brother’s death. He eventually realized his heroism and followed his example.
