In a win that was surprising to many fans, INFINITE beat out EXO for the Best Male Group award. The group also received the Song MDR Worldwide Performer award which is not shocking to anyone who has been able to witness their powerful live show.
EXO proved that they are a force to be reckoned with during their live stage which featured a Germanic themed video entitled Ein Subertraum which segued into the hits Growl and Wolf. These strong performances brought the crowd to their feet and kept the music going.
Earlier in the night, Icona Pop took with the stage with a special cameo made by 2NE1's CL, who provided a rap for an uncensored version the hit song I Love It. Following Icona Pop's performance, Choi Young Pil received the BC Unionpay Song of the Year award for his hit Bounce. Coincidentally, Paris Hilton name checked Bounce as being her favorite K-Pop song, during the Red Carpet.
In a very bittersweet win, G-Dragon was awarded Best Dance Performance-Male Solo over his Big Bang group mate Seungri. Seungri was in good spirits and G-Dragon was apologetic to the maknae for his win. G-Dragon also won the Unionpay Artist of the Year Award, making 2013 MAMA look more like his own personal trophy reception.
In light of recent events, female vocalist Ailee appeared triumphant as she received the award for Best Vocal Performance-Female. She thanked her fans for their continued support and attributed the win to them.
One of the most humorous stages of the night was the performance by two YouTube viral sensations, Ylvis and Crayon Pop. Ylvis delivered a rousing rendition of their hit Fox while Crayon Pop performed the Straight Five Engine Dance to Bar Bar Bar. Ylvis kept their fox suits on and joined the girls of Crayon Pop to perform the dance and conclude the stage. Ylvis continued to wear their fox costumes to receive the International Favorite award, which was given to them by a very hip-hop styled Jay Park.
Sistar, who is always gorgeous, received the Style In Music Award. The group is viewed as constant trendsetters, as well as style icons. Superstar K's Park Jaejung and Zhu Jaja performed a wonderful English rendition of Fun's youth anthem We Are Young , which was followed by Apink receiving the Next Generation Global Star Award.
Lee Seung Gi delivered a gorgeous orchestral performance of Return in reception of the Best Vocal Performance award.
Roy Kim was the recipient of the Best Male Artist award, while SHINee received Best Dance Performance-Male Group. Dynamic Duo was awarded Best Rap Performance award for BAAM. In a win that may have been surprising for international fans of K-Pop, Busker Busker beat out FNC Entertainment's CNBLUE for the Best Band Performance award.
