‘Avengers Age Of Ultron’ Release Date Followed By ‘Ant Man;’ Can It Compete With ‘Man Of Steel 2’ In Blockbuster Summer? Superhero Comedy Will Still Be 'Bad Ass'

While "Avengers Age of Ultron" has locked down a May 2015 Release date, Marvel thought it best to release their follow up two months later.

As they introduce a new character in preparation for Phase Three, Marvel's feature film "Ant Man" was moved to an earlier release date. It will only be two months after "Man of Steel 2" aka "Batman Vs Superman."

Marvel doesn't seem to be worried that audiences may have superhero saturation that summer. Actually, they want to ride on the momentum of the Avengers sequel.

They don't see "Man of Steel 2" as competition as the tone of the movie is different. Marvel's movies have always been light and comedic, while Man of Steel, being DC's new flagship title is serious. Even the Batman trilogy was known for its dark theme.

"Ant Man" promises to be a riot, even more than Iron Man or The Avengers. However, director Edgar Wright (The World's End, Scott Pilgrim) wants to remind viewers that it is still a superhero movie and the stakes are serious.

In an interview with ET Online, his exact words were 'bad ass.'

"I want to make him into a badass [laughs]. No, I always liked that comic and I always thought it would be an interesting thing to see in live-action. That's why I [showed] that Comic-Con test that we did for Marvel, to show this fight scene like a proof of content, like this is what the action is going to look like. I think a lot of people who maybe don't know the character sort of see that test and go, "Oh, right, I get it. It's like an action film," so that's the idea. I think people will be surprised by what kind of movie it is, and so in that respect it's something that I know is going to stand out because it's got a very different story and is a very different movie."

Will 'Ant Man' be Marvel's first comedy? "Well, I think the Marvel movies are funny, you know? I think generally the Iron Man films and The Avengers is funny. They're not ever in the comedy section, but they are funny and entertaining, so I think it'll be something in a similar vein to that."

Rumored candidates for the role are Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd, both of whom have comedic experience. The decision may be announced before the year ends.
