NBA Trade Rumors - Chicago Bulls Trade Options Discussed; No One Is Spared, Not Even The Former MVP

The injury to Derrick Rose was devastating, no doubt. But the most enterprising front office executives can see that as an opportunity.

Bold predictions of success in anticipation of Derrick Rose's return were made all around the internet. Even Bill Simmons, ESPN's Sports Guy ranked them number 1 ahead of the defending champions, Miami Heat. In that preview video, his companion former NBA player Jalen Rose wanted to clarify- "do you mean the Bulls will be number one at the end of regular season?" Simmons responded by predicting that the Bulls will be the 2014 NBA Champions.

Rose's injury throws a giant monkey wrench to all that. Now they face some tough questions about the team's future.

Even if Rose didn't get injured, this was the last chance for this team as currently constructed. The Bulls are one of the best teams now, but they have enough assets to make the team even better --with or without Derrick Rose.

Luol Deng is the most likely candidate. He is not just a good player with multi-skills and high IQ, his contract is also expiring. That can be good or bad depending on the receiving team. They have the option of offering an extension beforehand if they like him. If it doesn't work out, he's out by the summer.

A suggestion from the Blog-A-Bull Fan posts points that Deng would be a great piece for the New Orleans Pelicans. They have a logjam at the guard position, something the Bulls desperately need (Marquis Teague and 38 year old Mike James is just nightmarish). Bulls can trade straight up for Eric Gordon, a strong offensive minded shooting guard. The only downside is that Gordon is also injury prone.

Luol Deng to the Spurs is another idea as Deng is the type of player coach Gregg Popovich covets. They would virtually gift wrap Duncan's retirement title. The Bulls could take all of San Antonio's expiring contracts and their first round pick (very late, though). Probably the ultimate tanking trade, and this will block Miami's three-peat.

Other trade options are Boozer to the Rockets (who need a power forward) in a possible three way trade with Omer Asik shipped to the Charlotte Bobcats, and the Bulls getting Portland's first round pick (owned by the Bobcats) and Ben Gordon. It's likely that Houston might ask for something more, even if Asik already requested a trade.

The craziest scenario has Derrick Rose himself on the trading block. From Sportsgrid, the reasoning is that one of the tanking teams with assets like the Philadelphia 76ers would take an injured Rose. He's out for the season, but that's the point. The Bulls can have any asset they have-Evan Turner, Thaddeus Young and even Michael Carter-Williams. This will help propel the 76ers down the lottery chute, and make the Bulls deep in the wing positions and they still get a point guard. Highly unlikely in a rational world, but you never know.
