Star Wars Episode 7 Spoilers: J.J. Abrams Says ‘A Release Date Is Great, But You Have To Release Something Great,’ – Casting Crew Also Looking For Ala Matt Damon Type Of Guy

Star Wars episode 7 was originally going to be released in the summer of 2015, however earlier this month an announcement was made saying that the highly-anticipated sci-fi franchise will be hitting theaters on Dec. 18, 2015 instead. The filming will commence spring next year at Pinewoods Studios in Buckinghamshire outside of London.

J.J. Abrams has spoken to MTV, saying that he's not disappointed with the film's delay and that it was an "infinitely better situation".

"Before I even came onto the project, they were talking about 2015. And they made this announcement very early on, which I understand."

"But it didn't necessarily have anything to do with the reality of where anything was creatively. I think that it's a hugely important thing that [the creative process] come first. A release date is great, but you have to release something great. To me, the new release date is a huge improvement."

In other news, Star Wars Episode 7 is rumored to have been looking for "a 40-something military man a la Matt Damon in 'Elysium'," according to an insider of Hollywood Reporter.

Previously, actor Jason Flemyng from "X-Men: First Class" was reported to have auditioned for Star Wars Episode 7 after sharing on Instagram a script, which he revealed to be in the movie's screenplay. In addition, Matt Smith from "Doctor Who" also allegedly had a meeting with the film makers for an unspecified role in the movie.

On the other hand, members of the Star Wars Episode 7 prequel were expected to return for the project, stars like Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher to name a few. Ford claimed that he has "not quite made the choice" during his recent TV interview, though.

J.J. Abrams will be directing the Star Wars Episode 7 movie, from the script he has co-written with Lawrence Kasdan of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
