NBA Trade Rumors – Paul Pierce Is Most Notable Addition To ‘Black Friday’ Shopping List Of Trade Prospects; Who Will Take Him?

'Black Friday' bargains take advantage of timing instead of profit. The same principle can be applied to NBA trades. Players on the Black Friday list from Ken Berger at CBS Sports can be taken 'at a discount' due to timing and team situations. It's time for other teams to take advantage.

Paul Pierce is the most curious addition to this list. He was recently traded to the Brooklyn Nets from his home for 16 years, the Boston Celtics. He loses a shot to join Kobe Bryant as contemporary legends who stayed with one team.

He agreed to that trade for a reason, and that's a title chase to add to his legacy. Everyone was on the same page for Brooklyn. They had the swagger and veteran guts. They also had something not too many teams can have -an owner who doesn't mind paying the luxury tax.

However, the underlying condition for overspending is success. Something the Nets have notoriously lacked this season. Now, it's time to press the panic button-or maybe to test if it works. Paul Pierce, despite his steep decline, is still an asset because of his expiring contract and his proven championship experience. There is no doubt that a team that's bent on winning it all this year would find Paul Pierce useful. The steep $15 million price tag doesn't matter since it's expiring.

The question is the price that the Nets will demand for Pierce. The Nets may demand a draft pick and ask the receiving team to take some bad contracts.  A clearer picture for a Paul Pierce trade would be in the February trade deadline. The East doesn't have too many contenders, and even the Chicago Bulls may be looking beyond the season after Derrick Rose's injury.

The West has six possible contenders, and that doesn't include the Portland Trailblazers, who were a surprise this season. The Memphis Grizzlies, who will miss Marc Gasol, is also a fringe contender. They got rid of Rudy Gay and his humongous contract which left a big scoring hole in their line-up. Taking Pierce for a championship run this year is less risky since he's expiring. Pierce is also a proven playoff performer, something sorely lacking with Rudy Gay.

Will Memphis or Portland take a shot at Paul Pierce? What will they offer?
