Mac Pro Release Date: U.S. Made Mac For Creative Pros ‘Not For The Faint Of Wallet’ Says Report, High-End Workstation Arriving This Month After 3 Years

Mac Pro release date 2014: The fastest mac there is will be available this month, three years after Apple unveiled in 2010 their newest line of Mac Pro. But what Ted Landau of Mac World describes as a “radically redesigned, supercharged” work station, he also labels “not for the faint of wallet.”

The most affordable of the new Mac Pro units is the $2,900 quad-core configuration. The unit comes with 256GB of storage. Those interested to upgrade to the six-core variant of the Mac Pro will need to pay an additional $1,000, but will the storage will still be at 256GB.

According to Landau, the only Apple-supplied way to get a 1TB Mac Pro is by upgrading the flash storage, to do so will require the prospective user to pay an additional $800 to go from 256GB to 1 TB.

During the October 22 event when Apple gave the Mac Pro its release date, the Cupertino tech giant revealed that the device was put through its paces with entertainment and media pros like Dean Devlin (Independence Day), photographer Lucas Gilman (National Geographic) and music producer Stuart Price (Lady Gaga).

Digital Trends notes that the new Mac Pro is positioned to be the workstation of choice for creative professionals. The machine is designed for individuals who make a living from creating content like video and music, thus, the pricing of the workstation is seemingly appealing still to a “small but profitable professional market,” as Mac World’s Landau describes.

According to Mashable noted that the new Mac Pro will be powered by a 3.7GHz quad-core Xeon processor, 12 GB of DRAM, Dual FirePro D300 GPUs with 2GB of VRAM each and a 256GB SSD. Apple says that by switching to solid state, the Mac Pro is 10x faster than it would be with a normal hard drive.

It will also have PCI-Express based flash storage, dual AMD FirePro GPUs, and the ability to connect three 4K resolution monitors. Port selection options for the workstation include Thunderbolt 2, USB 3.0, HDMI 1.4 and a set of Gigabit Ethernet connectors. Apple’s newest highest-end work station comes with wireless connectivity via 802.11ac and Blueetooth 4.0.
