Ant Man Movie Plot Spoilers – Director Edgar Wright Shares His Vision For Henry Pym; ‘It’s Not Just Another Shrinking Movie’

While Edgar Wright is known primarily as a comedy director, he is dead serious for his "Ant Man" project.

Wright shared his vision for the character. Henry Pym is one of the major characters in the Avengers, and even in the whole Marvel Universe. However, since he has yet to be introduced, Pym seems to have been marginalized.

While there aren't too many vocal Pym fans out there, most comic fanboys founs it unfair that Ultron's origin was disconnected from Pym. In the comic book canon, Ultron is virtually Henry Pym. He even shared Pym's feelings for Janet Van Dyne (aka the Wasp).

Wright shares what drew him to the character of the Ant Man, starting with the his encounters with the character in the comics. In an interview with Cultbox: "I had two issues as a kid, one of them was a reprint of 'Tales to Astonish 27' featuring 'The Man in the Ant-Hill'" said Wright. "So I had a copy of that, and then later I had 'Marvel Premiere 47' which was the first appearance of Scott Lang. So it was funny that I had both those issues, and I particularly thought 'The Man in the Ant-Hill' was something extremely odd and cool and it almost had a horror movie feel to it."

The director of "The World's End" also had an interview with Mirror Online. This time, he discusses the essential difference of Ant Man with other 'shrinking' movies: "The difference between [Ant-Man] and other shrinking movies is all other shrinking movies are usually about somebody trapped small - whether it's The Incredible Shrinking Man, Innerspace or Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. This is different in that he can actually change size and he can do that at will, so it becomes more of a power than an impediment."

Of course, the biggest difference is that Ant Man is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it has to coincide with the grand scheme of things. However, he contends that the characters in Marvel are well established on their own, and that each solo movie can stand on its own: "I think the Marvel films that really work are about characters. The first Iron Man is almost like a character study of Tony Stark. It's as much a film about him than it is a big action epic. The ones that're really successful are really good on character, about grounding the heroes as well.... [I'm] very happy with where [Ant-Man] is right now."
