‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 4 Spoilers: Littlefinger In The Book And In The Television Series ‘Are Very Different Characters,’ George RR Martin Says

"Game of Thrones" season 4 is sure to feature Littlefinger, or Petyr Baelish, when it premieres next spring. Author of the series George RR Martin revealed in a new spoiler that Littlefinger in his book compared to Littlefinger in the "Game of Thrones" HBO television show are very different characters.

WinterisComing.net reports that George RR Martin participated in a BBC documentary on Niccolo Machiavelli, to mark the 500th anniversary of the book "The Prince." In the interview, Martin talked about Petyr Baelish, or Littlefinger, and described him as the most Machiavellian of his characters.

Martin also explained that Littlefinger is the character that changed the most in the adaptation from the books to the "Game of Thrones" show.

"There was a line in a recent episode of the show where, he's not even present, but two people are talking about him and someone says 'Well, no one trusts Littlefinger' and 'Littlefinger has no friends.' And that's true of television show Littlefinger, but it's certainly not true of book Littlefinger. Book Littlefinger, in the book, everybody trusts him. Everybody trusts him because he seems powerless, and he's very friendly, and he's very helpful," Martin said in the documentary.

"But of course there's the Machiavellian thing," the author added.

Martin also noted that the "grittiness" of real English and Scottish history influenced his world of Westeros in "Game of Thrones," BBC News reports. He was also inspired by "the plotting and intrigue of Machiavelli's era during the Italian renaissance," the website added.

Meanwhile, George RR Martin spoke about how he will end the "A Song Of Fire And Ice" series on Empire Magazine's Webcast. He gave some spoilers on how he'll wrap up his famous tale.

According to Vanity Fair, the author says that he has "a broad sense of where the story is going - I know the end, I know the end of the principal characters, and I know the major turning points and events from the books, the climaxes for each book, but I don't necessarily know each twist and turn along the way."
