‘X-Men Days Of Future Past’ Cast Rumors – Hugh Jackman Is ‘Not Sure’ To Return As Wolverine; Will Fox Recast The Role In Future X-Men Movies?

Hugh Jackman rose to prominence 13 years ago when it was announced that he will play the iconic role of Wolverine. That was for Bryan Singer's original X-Men movie.

Now, Hugh Jackman is one of the most important actors in Hollywood. This is one ideal set-up, or an ideal match. This happens when it is not easily determined whether the role did more for Hugh Jackman or did Hugh Jackman did more for the role.

His outstanding rendition of the character has led to two spin-off movies (X-Men Origins and The Wolverine) and it was recently announced that they will have another one. At first, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine was a done deal. However, Jackman airs some of his hesitations in an interview with Vanity Fair (to promote the release of the DVD boxed set of "The Wolverine." He shares:

"I don't know whether or not I will do this next movie. I am really proud of this movie and I am excited to develop something with Jim Mangold from the beginning because that is a great ride. That's exciting, to see what we come up with but I have a very high expectation of what it would need to be [for me to star in it] and if it doesn't reach those, I won't be doing it."

Was it because of the characters' rage and anger? Wolverine is carrying 200 years of baggage. He has seen loved ones pass on, he has been betrayed countless times. Is it that difficult to project anymore?

Jackman replies: "It's frighteningly easy [laughs]. No, I'm being a little facetious. But I suppose as an actor, emotion is your trade. If you limited that to how you are in life or 90 percent of the time, then your range as an actor would be kind of boring. I am a pretty level-headed person but it's fair to say I have one of the simmering kind of temperaments. I am pretty even-keeled most of the time. It's like good therapy, playing this role."

An aging actor was never a problem in the comic books. Thus, it is up to 20th Century Fox on how to present the Wolverine recasting. It is almost certain that the character will live on: "X-Men Apocalypse" has been announced with a 2016 release date.

Meanwhile, enjoy the Hugh Jackman/Wolverine in "X-Men: Days of Future Past" on May 2014.
