Mitt Romney Documentary To Premiere On Netflix; Film Showcases 'Unique Storytelling' Of The Former Governor’s Bid To Presidency

Netflix will premiere an original  documentary on Jan. 24, 2014 featuring blow-by-blow documentary of Mitt Romney's presidential bid.

Subscribers can access the stream in US, Ireland, Canada, UK, the Carribean, Netherlands and Latin America. The US provider of on-demand Internet streaming media has over 29 million subscribers.

The documentary, simply entitled "Mitt," will first be premiered at the Sundance Film Festival seven days after the Neflix streaming. It is directed by Greg Whiteley (who also helmed the 2005 documentary "New York Doll") and executive produced by Seth Gordon (who also directed "Horrible Bosses").

According to the company statement, "Mitt" follows the story of Romney's two attempts at the presidency in 2008 and 2012. The film begins in Christmas of 2006 when Romney sought to become the Republican nominee. It ended with Romney's presidential concession speech in 2012.

The director and the crew were given unbridaled access into the personal and professional life of Mitt Romney during his campaign tours.

Lisa Nishimura, Netflix VP of Original Documentary and Comedy said: "Mitt provides viewers a surprising level of access into a fascinating world.

"This rare inside look at Mitt Romney and his family as he runs for president showcases a unique kind of storytelling, one which takes the viewer well beyond the politics. We are thrilled to be providing our viewers with this one-of-a-kind film from such a talented filmmaker," she said.

Whiteley, meanwhile, said that making the movie and premiering it at Sundance felt like a "full circle moment"

"I first met and filmed the Romney family in Park City in 2006 as they gathered to discuss whether Mitt should run for President. Over the next 7 years I couldn't believe I was filming inside rooms and situations I had no business being in. Now that I've finished I couldn't be more pleased to share this experience with audiences around the world through Netflix," he said.
