Demi Lovato Drug Rehab Update: ‘I Can’t Drink Responsibly,’ X Factor Judge Says; Refuses To Give Up Sobriety

Demi Lovato revealed in her most recent candid interview a new update on her drug and alcohol rehab. Demi Lovato admitted that she can never drink or smoke recreationally, and takes great care to stay sober.

Following nine months at a drug rehab, Demi Lovato revealed that her sobriety is very important to her and that she can never go back to drinking or smoking for fun.

The 21-year-old "X Factor" judge revealed to OK! magazine in a recent interview: "Some people can smoke and drink recreationally. I'm not one of those people," she said. "If I do that, it will spiral out of control very quickly. I've lost the privilege of being able to drink responsibly."

"I've definitely struggled a lot with drug and alcohol addictions - even more than with my eating disorder," she added.

"But I decided to stay strong when my father died. I worked so hard on my sobriety - I wasn't going to give it up."

She explained: "When I feel like I want to give up I think to myself, 'No, what about the 17-year-old girl that's been free of self-harming for nine months?' If I give up my sobriety, that would mean it would be OK for her to go back to self-harming.''

NineMSN reports that Demi wraps up her stint as "X Factor" judge later this week.

Meanwhile, Demi was spotted reuniting with her former best friend Selena Gomez, who was there to support Demi when she made a rare visit to a drug addiction rehab center to speak to a recovery group about her drug abuse struggles, TMZ reports.

Demi recently spoke to Access Hollywood about her cocaine addiction when she was just a teenager, USA Today reports.

"I couldn't go 30 minutes to an hour without cocaine and I would bring it on airplanes," she said. "I would smuggle it basically and just wait until everyone in first class would go to sleep and I would do it right there. I'd sneak to the bathroom and I'd do it. ... And that was even with somebody (with me), I had a sober companion, somebody who was watching me 24/7 and living with me (and) I was able to hide it from them as well."
