As Hollywood keeps up with a new generation of viewers' having short attention spans, we have reboots, recasts, re-imaginings aside from the remakes. "The Amazing Spider Man" franchise has tried to trump its rivals by planning ahead of everyone with release dates as distant as 2018. But have they gone too far ahead?

They have already revealed a possibility on how to fill in the gaps (as TASM 3 is set for 2016 and TASM 4 is set for 2018) with two confirmed spin-off movies in Venom and the Sinister Six.

However, they may need to fill a big casting gap. It is not known whether this was intentional, but Andrew Garfield himself has claimed that he is not signed for the fourth installment.

In an interview with Yahoo, he shares the following statements about the movie and their creative team:

"I sat with [writers] Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman in a restaurant for lunch in New York, and they pitched me this movie... And I was crying"

"I was really emotionally moved by what they said to me. And I think a lot of my emotion was because these two guys love the character as much as I do." 

"I mean I'm under contract for another one after this... as far as a fourth one? That's not anything to do with me."(sic)

"But yeah, I think what we're doing here is we've established the world. And now we get to really play inside that world."

"Use our imagination, and kind of expand. That's what this film is."

His comments on the fourth movie seem ominous - what exactly does he mean by the fourth film "not anything to do with" him?

How can a Spider Man movie not have anything to do with Spider Man? Is he referring to Spider Man the character, or Andrew Garfield the actor? Does this mean there will be another reboot despite TASM 4 being a sequel?
