The Biblical movie 'Noah' is poised to be a blockbuster. It is directed by Darren Aronofsky (The Black Swan) and has a stellar cast (Russell Crowe, Emma Watson, Jennifer Connelly). It also features a story that is held sacred by almost a billion people (Jews and Christians). Herein lies the problem.

While Jews and Christians are (in general) less 'expressive' than some of their Islam counterparts, there have been expressions of protest when their image is portrayed in a damaging light. There was an uproar among the  Jews towards "The Passion of the Christ" by Mel Gibson. On the other hand, the Christians have praised "The Passion.." for its attempt of being the most historically accurate portrayal of the suffering and death of Jesus Christ.

The upcoming movie "Noah" may bring them together, albeit in anger. It has been reported by the Telegraph UK that: "There has already been controversy over the movie's third act, where the film's story threatens to diverge from the biblical version of events. In October of 2012, a version of the script surfaced on the internet, which displeased one Christian reader so much that he described the director's version of Noah as an 'environmentalist wacko.'"

To this end, Aronofsky did not deny that he was making a compromise as a filmmaker. He notes that not everyone who will watch the movie are believers, and that he needed a feasible storyline to avoid alienating a considerable part of the audience. As stated in Telegraph UK: "Aronofsky himself has stated said he tried to appeal to both the religious and the secular viewer by being factually accurate and allegorically interesting. He said that he hoped that it "could connect to a modern audience" by "ring[ing] true to people who think it really happened and those who think it's a story".

Paramount Pictures became wary as the film has a big budget and it would be a shame to lose audiences because their religious sensibilities were offended.
