Jodi Arias Trial Update Today hln: The next hearing date in the Jodi Arias trial will be on Jan. 3, according to the victim's brother. Jodi Arias will be back at Maricopa County Superior Court in Phoenix, Ariz., on Jan. 3, 2014.

Steven Alexander, the brother of victim Travis Alexander, announced on Facebook that the next hearing date in the Jodi Arias trial is set for January 3. The retrial is set to start in mid-Febuary.

Steven Alexander announced on the Facebook page "Justice for Travis Alexander," that "We believe this is a tactic to try and get us to throw in the towel. We will not! I say again it won't happen. Our family will come together and see it through until it is finished. There is a monster that haunts us, but once the correct sentence is given, it's her who will be haunted until the most the most humane punishment comes to her. Nothing compared to the sentence she gave to a good man. Anyhow, the entire Alexander family thanks all of you. Thank you for having our backs."

The trial began highly publicize with multiple national media outlets reporting on scene, but the judge in charge of the case has since shut out news agencies and the public from the case.

Jodi Arias was convicted of the murder of Travis Alexander in May. The jury found her guilty but couldn't decide whether to sentence her to life in prison or give her the death penalty. Prosecutors have been pursuing a second penalty phase. The Jodi Arias retrial will seat a new jury that the prosecution hopes will turn in a death sentence. There has been no date set for the new trial.

Jodi Arias admitted that she committed the grisly 2008 murder of her ex-boyfriend, Travis Alexander. The former waitress and budding photographer stabbed him 27 times, shot him in the face and cut his throat from ear to ear with such force she almost took his head off. Jodi Arias maintained that she did it in self-defense. Arias claimed Travis Alexander had a violent outburst while they were shooting a nude video and she dropped his camera. The jury found her guilty but couldn't decide whether to sentence her to life in prison or give her the death penalty. Prosecutors said Arias, 33, she killed her boyfriend in a jealous rage.

Judge Sherry Stephens been holding Jodi Arias hearings behind closed doors. Jodi Arias tried to fire her lead attorney. The judge has also heard arguments over sequestering the new jury, moving the case out of Phoenix and barring live television coverage of the retrial.

The Jodi Arias trial has cost taxpayers more than $1.7 million.
