Gilligan’s Island Movie Casting Rumors: Cult TV Show Will Be Remade as a Movie by Warner Bros Movie; Will Star Josh Gad

Gilligan's Island Movie Casting Rumors: "Gilligan's Island is being remade into a movie. Warner Brothers announced that they negotiated a contract with Josh Gad, most recently seen in the movie "Frozen" as the voice of Olaf the Snowman. Gad will also co-write the Gilligan's Island screenplay.

Gilligan's Island saw seven castaways stranded on an island after a three hour tour. A three hour tour? Yes, the weather started getting rough and their tiny ship was lost. Luckily, millionaire Mr. Howell stashed hundreds of thousands in cash and movie star Ginger Grant brought along enough changes of clothes for three years.

Josh Gad from NBC's "1600 Penn" and FOX network's "Back to You" signed on to star as the little buddy Gilligan in an upcoming movie based on the popular sitcom from the 1960s "Gilligan's Island." Josh Gad also played Elder Arnold Cunningham in Broadway's "The Book of Mormon."

There has been no casting releases on who will be playing the other six castaways.

Josh Gad is also on board to co-write the movie version of Gilligan's Island with Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez.

"Gilligan's Island" starred Bob Denver as Gilligan, Alan Hale Jr as the Skipper, Jim Backus and Natalie Schafer as millionaire couple Thurston Howell III an Lovey, Tina Louise as Hollywood starlet Ginger Grant, Russell Johnson and Dawn Wells as either the Professor and Maryann or "and the rest" depending on which version of the theme song was playing.

Gilligan Island was created by Sherwood Schwartz who died in 2011. Prior to his death, Schwartz suggested that Michael Cera might make a good Gilligan.

The original series ran for three years on CBS from September 26, 1964, to September 4, 1967. It was so popular three made-for-television movies came out of it "Rescue From Gilligan's Island" in 1978, "The Castaways on Gilligan's Island" from 1979 and "The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island" starring Mission Impossible's Martin Landau as the villain in 1981. Tina Louise was not always on board.

Gilligan's Island will be executive produced by Sherwood Schwartz's sons Lloyd and Ross Schwartz along with the daughters of the late actor and producer Phil Silvers, Tracey and Cathy Silvers. Phil Silvers appeared in one episode of the sitcom, which was financed by his Gladasya production company. According to rumor Silver made more money from Gilligan Island than any of his other productions.
