Lakers Lose Kobe Bryant Again; Knee Fracture Will Set Him Back Six Weeks; Steve Nash Recovery Also Extended Four Weeks

The LA Lakers lose Kobe Bryant again. Their superstar guard had a slight fracture in his knee after the win against the Memphis Grizzlies.

An MRI was conducted after the game and it was discovered that he actually had the break early in the first half. Kobe played on until the end of the game.

ESPN LA talked with the Lakers regarding the incident. Kobe narrates: "I just hyperextended it. I tend to hyperextend my knees every now and then."

At the practice session last Thursday, coach Mike D'Antoni said: "That's too bad. "You hate it for Kobe. He worked so hard to get back. But he'll be back. He'll be back in six weeks, and we'll deal with it and weather the storm until he gets back."

D'Antoni was asked the question of whether Kobe came back too soon from his Achilles injury: "There's always a risk until he gets completely used to playing. But the doctors were all over it. Nah, that's just bad luck."

Also from ESPN LA:

"The team also announced Thursday that the veteran point guard -- limited to just six games this season -- will miss an additional four weeks because of nerve root irritation.

Nash was re-evaluated during the team's just-completed road trip."

Pau Gasol, the beleaguered center who will now be the leader of the team: "It's tough when you get in a streak like that. He was fighting through and getting through the process of getting back on the floor after tearing his Achilles, and now you get this fracture. It's very hard for me as a teammate, as his friend, to understand that that happened to him. But what can you do? He's tough enough. He'll get through it and be back and ready to play."

The Lakers went 2-4 since Kobe's return. They are currently in 11th place in the Western Conference. ESPN had a pre-season ranking and placed the Lakers at 12th place.
