Award-winning online news magazine New York Mag has hailed 'Her' as Movie of the Year despite the fact that the film has only been shown in limited venues and was only released a few weeks ago.

David Edelstein, the website's resident film expert, called this movie by Spike Jonze as this year's best, citing its incredible plot and outstanding cast.

'Her' is a lonely guy movie, something that has been done in the past. It is about Theodore Twombly (played by Joaquin Phoenix) who developed a relationship with a female voice produced by an intelligent computer operating system. The film also features a smorgasbord of beautiful faces like Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, and Scarlett Johannson (voice over). 

In his review entitled "To Siri with Love", which is obviously a reference to the famous  intelligent personal assistant by Apple Inc., Edelstein commended Jonze for his clean writing and conceptualization. He thinks that the "writer-director gets beautifully lost in Her. He wrote it as if he were following the voice of his title character, a computer operating system that sounds like a breathy young woman. The "OS" names herself "Samantha" and grows more and more human, meaning less and less certain. "

Edelstein also commended the cast, especially Phoenix. He thought it is "hard to imagine someone more affecting than Phoenix in the role." He also said that Phoenix "is the kind of actor who, for better or worse, strives to lose his bearings onscreen."

As of today, Her has already reaped awards and nominations from different groups and organizations. Among them are Johannson's Best Actress award at the Rome Film Festival and Phoenix's nomination for the San Diego Film Critics Society Award for Best Actor and Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association Award for Best Actor.

Her is expected to be out on theaters by January 10 next year.
