Indiana Pacers Danny Granger Will Struggle Says Larry Bird; Will The Pacers President Trade The Former All-Star?

The Indiana Pacers are currently on a roll right now in this early part of the 2013-2014 NBA season. After a sorry loss against Miami Heat, the Pacers bounced back by demolishing the Boston Celtics. The Indianapolis-based team has received a boost as they welcomed back a former all-star in Danny Granger who missed weeks because of injury. However, for Pacers president and basketball legend Larry Bird, things might not look good for the 30-year old small forward.

In a report by the Indy Star, Bird said that Granger might struggle the whole season. When asked about the result of Granger's comeback, the 3-time NBA champion said Granger might struggle for whole season because of his work ethics.

"Absolutely, he'll struggle. He's missed nine months. Even when he's been healthy, he's always been a slow starter throughout his career."

"He doesn't work hard enough (in the offseason)," Bird said. "He's not a guy who'll push himself to the brink like a lot of our guys do. He works hard but he doesn't push himself. That's why he starts slow every year and he just works his way back. Now this year, he's been hurt, so it's a different deal."

However, he assured that he would not deal his former superstar to other team for now.

"I've talked to Danny, talked to his agent; I'm not looking to trade him," team Bird said Saturday. "But you never know. If the right thing came along that would help the franchise, I would have to look at it, but I'm not out there looking at deals."

Before the start of the season, Bird insisted that Granger should not lose his starting spot. However, with the way it looks, Granger will have to claim his throne back against three other healthier players who have already gelled well with the team's system. First is Lance Stephenson whom Indy fans say a perfect complementary player and a great energizer. Then there's CJ Watson who plays efficiently whenever being fielded on the floor.
