Last Saturday was the last "Saturday Night Live" episode of 2013. During the episode, NBC announced their "SNL" 2014 schedule: Drake is slotted as the first host and musical guest of "Saturday Night Live" in the new year. He will perform on January 18.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Drake has one "Saturday Night Live" appearance under his belt: he served as musical guest opposite host Anna Faris in 2011.

According to MTV News, Drake also popped into the "Weekend Update" sketch alongside cast member Jay Pharoah dressed as a werewolf in 2011, to talk (and rap) to anchorman Seth Meyers about the disturbing Halloween trend of "bag jackin'."

Recently, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus and Bruno Mars all performed on "SNL" as both hosts and musical guests as well, pitching in on sketches and performing two songs on the show, MTV News reports.

We're guessing Drake will do a good job as host, due to his previous acting experience. The 27-year-old Canadian rapper spent eight years (2001-2009) on the TV series "Degrassi: The Next Generation" days.

Drake's latest album, "Nothing Was the Same," dropped in September.

Meanwhile, "SNL" hit a two-year ratings high with host Jimmy Fallon and musical guest Justin Timberlake last Saturday, Variety reports. In Nielsen's 56 overnight metered markets, "SNL" delivered a 6.3 household rating/16 share, its highest mark since the Jan. 7, 2012 edition hosted by Charles Barkley with musical guest Kelly Clarkson, according to Variety.

The Dec. 21 "Saturday Night Live" episode also marked "SNL's" highest pre-Christmas edition since Dec. 18, 2004, when Robert De Niro hosted and Destiny's Child performed.

"Saturday Night Live" returns to NBC after the winter break on January 18, 2014.
