NBA Trade Rumors - Rajon Rondo For Danny Granger, George Hill As The Pacers Go All In For This Season; Will Celtics Help Larry Legend Win A Title?

Win now, win later. A trade scenario making the rounds has the Indiana Pacers, a 'championship or bust' team making a beneficial deal with the Boston Celtics, a 'waiting for next year' team.

Pre-season predictions may fail, but when it's a die-hard Boston Celtics fan predicting a conspiracy, it sounds very interesting. Bill Simmons of Grantland predicted that Rajon Rondo will be gone by mid-season. This statement propelled multiple trade speculation. Simmons is not just any sports writer, he is a die-hard Boston Celtic fan.

The Rondo to Indiana trade proposed in Latinos Post: Rajon Rondo to the Indiana Pacers, Danny Granger, George Hill and Indiana's first round pick in the loaded 2014 Draft to the Boston Celtics.

Checking the trade on the ESPN trade machine, it would not actually work since the Celtics are taking on too much salary. Granger alone costs higher than Rondo. With George Hill, it takes them over the cap. Another point: the Pacers do not own their 2014 first round pick. They sent it to Phoenix for the Luis Scola trade. It is Top 14 protected (Indiana will get it back if the pick is in the top 14), but with Indiana at the top of the standings, that's highly unlikely.

The Celtics would need Hill so they can get a veteran point guard. To make the trade work, the Celtics should send more salary to Indiana. Thus, Indiana needs to do Boston a favor. The Celtics can send Gerald Wallace's bad contract to Indiana.

The final trade breakdown: Rondo, Gerald Wallace to the Indiana Pacers; Danny Granger, George Hill to the Boston Celtics.

Indiana is admittedly weak at the point guard spot. George Hill has been sufficient, but they need a sharper distributor to take them one step further. Rondo is an All-Star guard with championship experience and an axe to grind against the Miami Heat.

The Celtics, on the other hand, retain their team chemistry and get something for Rondo. Granger is an expiring contract, but they may have to keep Hill-something Danny Ainge won't mind. Also, he will help his former teammate, Pacers president, Larry 'Legend' Bird.

The Indiana Pacers + Rajon Rondo is dangerous. If this deal is made, Pat Riley may have to weave his magic and orchestrate his own blockbuster.
