Houston Rockets Chandler Parsons Gave The Best Christmas Present To ‘Special Fan’: Shave His Hair In Solidarity For Cancer Patient

Houston Rockets small forward Chandler Parsons and the rest of his teammates celebrated Christmas Day with a win vs San Antonio Spurs, definitely the best treat for his team and their fans.

But before that Christmas Day present, the 25-year old good looking player has already made a special fan happy. Not through three-pointers or exciting slam dunks but by shaving his own hair.

When Parsons showed up in his team's shoot around, he was sporting a new look. When reached by media, he said that he had his hair trimmed in solidarity to a cancer patient named Patrick Hobbs-DeClaire whom he met last week.

"He is more worried about not looking like his twin brother anymore, so me being his favorite player, I decided to shave my head to look more like him and hopefully give him some support and encouragement from me," Parsons said.

Patrick Hobbs-DeClaire, 10-years old, has been suffering from cancer since last year. He has been battling a stage 4 neuroblastoma - a form of cancer that attacks the nervous system. This disease is typically targets young children.

According to Rockets.com, Patrick's father, Christopher DeClaire, reached out to team CEO Tad Brown and asked if there's a way for his kid to see one or two players. Among those who have visited Patrick are Jeremy Lin, James Harden, and Dwight Howard.

Parsons was the one who was so moved by Patrick's situation and as an act of solidarity, he decided to shave his hair so the kid won't feel different from the others.

"The kid is so strong and so brave," he says of Patrick.

"Here I am going to see a podiatrist for an ingrown toenail and this kid is battling for his life. How he handles it is incredible. It's similar to what we do: He tries to not look ahead and he tries to not look behind. He game plans for every single day and every day is a new day and a new challenge. He just tries to plan and do what he's got to do for that day to survive."
