NBA Trade Rumors - Russell Westbrook Injury Sparks Trade Talks In OKC; Who Should The Thunder Get To Help Durant?

The Oklahoma City Thunder suffered a setback into their stellar campaign when Russell Westbrook got injured again.

According to the Oklahoman, the timetable set for his return extends beyond the All-Star Break. Thus, he will miss some crucial games. Athletically gifted as he is, Westbrook is only human.

The Thunder is a team that hardly makes any excuses. They lost Westbrook in the playoffs last season but they never used that as a reason for losing. They have always believed that their team philosophy will overcome the loss of any one player, as long as he is not named Kevin Durant.

The critics of the James Harden trade have reared their heads again. They claim that OKC's title chances have gone with Westbrook, especially since they don't have one of the league's best shooting guards.

Should OKC make a trade? The team has never believed in 'panic trades' as they are a team with a young core. They can always look towards the future. However, Kevin Durant will be a free agent in a couple of years. If he remains title-less in Oklahoma, a small-market team that would rather trade a star than venture into the luxury tax zone, he might look elsewhere.

The Thunder would wisely remain prudent with their line-up. They have developed another rotation player in Reggie Jackson who has made Thunder fans forget about Harden. Jeremy Lamb is starting to come into his own.

However, there are certain moves that the Thunder should make. They do not want to be the branded as the team that always fell short. Small-market or not, they should roll the dice.

Thaddeus Young of the Philadelphia 76ers has already made a 'soft' trade request. He's young and athletic, a perfect fit for OKC.

ESPN Trade Machine experts have a scenario where a tanking team like the Philadelphia 76ers will trade away Thaddeus Young and Evan Turner for OKC's first round pick in 2014 (even if it's a low pick, Sixers will take it), Kendrick Perkins horrible contract, Perry Jones and Nick Collison. The main challenge is convincing the Sixers to take Perkins-probably OKC's biggest mistake.

The Thunder has developed a good frontline with Serge Ibaka and rookie Steven Adams. Perkins is excess baggage (in more ways than one) and Jones, a stellar college talent, might actually breakout with a new team. The Sixers can gamble on that, and if they lose, it serves their tanking purpose.
