Upcoming Sony Phones 2014: Sony Rumored To Launch Its First-Ever Windows-Powered Handset

As we mark the start of the year, we see several upcoming Sony phones for 2014. And for a company that has been doing pretty well in its own niche and target market, exploring on new horizons would be a welcomed strategy. Now, a report claims that Sony is considering to launch a Windows Phone handset this year.

According to a report from The Information, Sony will release a phone by mid-2014 that will run on the Windows Phone OS platform as a member of the Vaio lineup.

Sony's popular Vaio line has been running Microsoft's Windows platform for years, and it has been doing it well. The recent release of Windows 8 and 8.1-powered laptops from Sony is also proof that a deeper partnership between the two companies is a big possibility.

On the other hand, Microsoft would soon be acquiring the mobile development department of Nokia as it has already cleared some regulatory agencies in both Europe and the United States. Once the deal has been made, the Redmond giant needs to look for other OEMs which can pump in more life and options for its Windows Phone OS.

Currently, there are a number of handsets which have already released their own 'Lumias' such as Samsung, HTC, and Huawei among others.
