Windows 8.1 Update: Leaked Image Suggests Start Menu Not Coming Back, No Substantial Changes To Interface

When the new version of Windows 8 was released last year, a lot of users were happy to see the return of the Start button. Unfortunately, the Start menu will not have the same fate when the Windows 8.1 update would be released some time in Q2.

In a report by BGR, a leaked image of a Windows 8.1 update homescreen was posted by WZor, and shows that the supposedly anticipated first update would not have substantial improvements.

According to the report, the image looks like the current version, and would probably remain to be difficult to navigate for keyboard and mouse users.

The platform's popular Start menu, as implied by the screenshot, looks like it is not returning to our desktops any time soon.

A recognized Windows leaker, WZor claims that the new Windows 8.1 update will be available to Microsoft's partner OEMs starting this month, and would be later announced on April 1st, a day before the Microsoft Build Developer Conference.

Of course, we should still take this rumor with a pinch of salt and wait until the Redmond company makes the announcement itself.
