Niagara Falls Frozen Photos Go Viral; Polar Vortex Continues To Send Shivers Down People’s Spines

While it is known that the polar vortex is causing unusual environmental phenomena, many were surprised when Niagara Falls frozen photos circulated. Although some people claim that the entirety of the majestic site is frozen, the tourist spot's live camera proves otherwise.

Niagara Falls frozen photos are true but only a portion of the falls is covered in ice which takes place every year. Some of the circulating Niagara Falls frozen photos even come from previous years.

According to a report by Reuters, "parts of the 176 foot American falls were covered in ice and the area below the conservation area was frozen over. The cold weather caused the Niagara river to form an ice bridge." No matter how stunning the view might be, authorities had to issue warnings for flash floods to the nearby islands.

Nonetheless, locals confirm that despite the customary snow and ice formations, the water is still flowing.

"The claim that the falls could 'freeze over,' that's just sort of ridiculous. Nearly 76,000 gallons of water flow over the American and Bridal Veil falls every second, at a speed of 32 feet per second. It would take a lot more than a few days of cold weather to completely shut that off,"says Niagara Falls Caitlin Dewey from The Washington Post.

The polar vortex has affected several parts of Canada and the United States of America. The temperature will have the tendency to disrupt travel plans and cancel several flights. For this reason, authorities continue to watch closely for possible threats to the safety of citizens.
