NBA Trade News - Three-Team Trade For Boston, Miami And Golden State. Who's The Winner Here?

Boston, Miami and Golden State have an actual trade. Not the blockbusters in the rumor mill, but it helps each team with regards to the direction they want to take.

Details of the trade from ESPN:

"The Boston Celtics receive Joel Anthony and 2 draft picks from Miami.

The Miami Heat receive Tony Douglas.

The Golden State Warriors receive Marshon Brooks and Jordan Crawford."

The Miami Heat has long been reported to be trading Joel Anthony for a backcourt player. It got its wish. Tony Douglas is tough defender and at most, an added option for the Heat as Wade continues to recover. The big deal for Miami, though, is that they save some tax dollars.

Grantland's Zach Lowe breaks this down: "Anthony makes $2.2 million more than Douglas this season, but that $2.2 million means far more than that to Miami, which was nearly $12 million over the tax line before this deal. The tax rates jump in increments of $5 million, and Miami before the trade was about halfway into the third tax band - the one that penalizes teams $2.50 for every dollar in salary north of $10 million above the actual tax. They now settle into the second tax band, which tops out at $1.75 per dollar, meaning the salary swap alone saves them about $5.5 million in tax payments."Even defending champions are wary of the tax penalty now.

For the Celtics, they have been trying to release the excess backcourt as far back as two months ago. This actually syncs with the suspicion that Rajon Rondo will indeed return soon, if not on Friday against the Lakers. No official confirmation from the Celtics on this though.

Boston wanted a first round pick for the Crawford and Brooks package, but even with a recent Eastern Conference Player of the Week award, teams would never give up a first round for 2014 even for both of them.  Joel Anthony is an extra big man, and that's better for them. The picks involved are Miami Heat's 2015 pick and a protected pick from the Sixers (lottery protected until 2015) that they are unlikely to get considering the tank is in full force in Philadelphia. By the way, the Celtics, whether they admit it or not, are tanking, so losing an EC Player of the Week actually works in their favor. Speaking of which..

Golden State wanted some back-ups for Stephen Curry and they realized that they don't need major minutes from whoever they're taking. A high profile Kyle Lowry is a high risk gamble, so Crawford and Brooks will suffice for their playoff run as they were wary to use Douglas in that role. Since they will probably use those players, they should take the best available out of this trade. And they did.

All the teams had their interests, albeit minor ones, fulfilled. No game changers, just slight tweaks.
