Samsung Galaxy Gear Price, News: $300 Wearable Gadget Doesn’t Interest Chinese Counterfeiters; ‘They Don’t Care...Demand Too Weak’

Samsung Galaxy Gear price, news: The $300 wearable gadget by the South Korean tech giant, which it claims has sold more than 800,000 in its first two months seems to not be a hit by Chinese counterfeiters.

“[Counterfeiters] don’t care about the Gear as consumer demand is too weak,” said a shop assistant from a Chinese store that sells Samsung products including the Samsung Galaxy Gear, as reported by CNN. “We don’t sell it anymore. It was not popular.”

Chinese counterfeiters are known to make a good living selling knockoff iPhones and Samsung Galaxy Phones, according to Business Insider. It seems that as a whole, Chinese counterfeiters are not impressed with wearables, says a report by CNN.

The counterfeiters are known for having a nose of what’s hot and not, and with their apparent lack of interest for the Samsung Galaxy Gear, the pirates seems to be sending a larger sentiment.

“Without the buzz, no need for the counterfeit, and it seems like Samsung’s smart watch hasn’t quite gotten the buzz going,” Alf Rehn, a business expert who has studied global piracy concerns, told CNN.

Business Insider notes that it seems that the negative reviews on the smartwatch has reached the counterfeiters in China. When Samsung Galaxy Gear was launched last September, it arrived with so-so reviews. Those who didn’t like the smartwatch said that the device has limited functionality, poor battery life and a bulky body.

Despite the seeming negative sentiment on the smartwatch, however, Samsung is expected to launch a second iteration of the device this year. Rumors have it that it will be launching the Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 together with the updated version of its flagship, which speculations suggest is dubbed as the Samsung Galaxy S5.
