According to a new report, Johnny Depp proposed to Amber Heard on Christmas Eve, but it took her a while to say yes!

"It happened on Christmas Eve," a source close to the couple told Celebuzz. "Amber really took her time to make up her mind."

"She turned him down before," added the source, "before she said yes. So she waited and was thinking about it for a long time."

And it looks like after confirming their relationship, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard made their official public red carpet debut as a couple the night before the Golden Globes at the Art of Elusium gala in Los Angeles on Jan. 11, Celebuzz reports.

Just days later, Heard was spotted leaving West Hollywood's Ago restaurant, covering up her left hand with her other palm. E! News was able to snap a photo of Heard's left hand, showing a huge black pearl and diamond ring on her engagement finger. Does the source and the ring spotting confirm that the couple are engaged?

Another report says Johnny, 50, and Amber, 27, are not technically engaged yet, but are "committed" to each other.

According to Contactmusic.com, a source told The Sun newspaper: ''It's a commitment ring and has an inscription on the inside in tiny writing which is a love note from him to her. No one's seen him this head-over-heels ever, he's like a different guy.

''All his angst has gone and for once he seems anchored and happy. They're starring in a film together later this year and wherever she goes, he goes. They're never apart for long now.''

Meanwhile, Johnny Depp was spotted with his mother, Betty Sue Palmer, and his girlfriend Amber Heard, for New Year's Eve at Ago restaurant (must be Amber's favorite place!). Perhaps Johnny's mother, who he is known for being very close to, wanted to meet her future daughter-in-law for the holidays!

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp have been dating since April, but met in 2011 on the set of "The Rum Diary."
