Hayley Atwell is standing by her boyfriend Captain America's side. ABC announced that the next Marvel series on their network will be the "Captain America" spin-off "Agent Carter." There were rumors that Hayley Atwell will be playing Peggy Carter in the upcoming Agent Carter spin-off from Captain America.

The network confirmed that Hayley will reprise the role of Captain America's love interest. Atwell dated Captain America in "The First Avenger."

The Captain America casting announcement was made at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. Showrunner Michele Fazekas told TheWrap that she had been sworn to secrecy. Something Agent Carter understands, being a secret agent.

"Agent Carter" will take place a year after the events of "Captain America: The First Avenger." The show will focus on Agent Peggy Carter as she works to build her career as a secret agent.

The pilot of "Agent Carter" was written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Markus and McFeely wrote "The First Avenger" and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." "Agent Carter will be run by  Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas, who also made "Reaper," and ABC's upcoming "Resurrection." Butters and Fazekas also co-created Joss Whedon's "Dollhouse."

Hayley Atwell has appeared a couple of times in the Marvel series. She played the World War II-era girlfriend of Chris Evans' Captain America. She also played Captain America's girlfriend in "Captain America: The First Avenger." Atwell was a huge hit with fans.

Rumors of Hayley's casting first came when the British media reported that Atwell was moving to Los Angeles at the beginning of January.

ABC entertainment chief Paul Lee also announced that Marvel's "Agents of S.H.IE.L.D." series will reveal the name of evil villain The Clairvoyant soon. They also announced that it will feature an appearance of "Thor" warrior Lady Sif who will be played by Jaimie Alexander.
