‘Flowers in the Attic’ Movie Quick Facts; Sequel ‘Petals on the Wind’ Being Finalized By Lifetime Channel

The latest on-screen adaptation of V.C. Andrews' 1979 novel 'Flowers in the Attic' is currently generating buzz because of its theme. Though it's already a remake of the film which was first released in 1987, bibliophiles are still interested if the film will have modern twists.

1.  The film is about four tormented siblings who have been locked in an attic for their mother's sins.

'Flowers in the Attic' tells the story of the four Dollanganger children Cathy, Chris, Cory, and Carrie who had no choice but to live in the mansion of their grandparents following their father's death. As the children's mother, Corrine, attempts to regain her father's trust, the children have been locked away in a cold attic by their grandmother. Can they still escape their tormenting state?

2. The movie has an incestuous theme.

Cathy and Chris will have an incestuous relationship in the film but Lifetime eliminated the rape scene which took place in the novel version. In the movie, their grandmother similarly ruins Cathy's beautiful blonde hair so that she wouldn't become a temptation to her brothe

3. There will be a sequel entitled 'Petals on the Wind'.

According to executive producer Michele Weiss, the sequel 'Petals on the Wind' will focus on Chris and Cathy's need for revenge.

"With 'Petals', it's kind of more out in the world. There's a lot of storylines, it takes place over a longer period of time. So, one of the challenges for us is to contain that story in a contained timeframe and I think we've figured out how to do it. It's going to be a revenge story. It's going to be Cathy and Christopher 10 years older, trying to get along with their lives, also caught up in feelings of resentment and revenge on Corinne," she explains.

4. There is a possibility that Kiernan Shipka and Mason Dye will not be reprising their roles in the sequel.

Despite their convincing performance in 'Flowers of Attic', producers will reportedly search for new artists to continue Chris and Cathy's character. According to Weiss, the two "are too young" for the roles making fans wonder as to who can possibly replace them.
