'The Amazing Spider Man 2' will not have any Mary Jane scenes. The on-screen (and rumored off screen) chemistry between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone had the producers thinking twice about brushing off Gwen Stacy so quickly.

In the comics, the death of Gwen Stacy was abrupt, and somewhat lacked the proper closure. While the storyline for "The Amazing Spider Man" will likely cross that path, the chemistry between the actors portraying them resulted in a double take, at the very least.

The character and actress caught in the crossfire is Mary Jane Watson who was supposed to be portrayed by Shailene Woodley. There seems to be some changes in the offing. First, the scenes with Mary Jane were cut from the TASM 2.

From Hollywood Life, the reasons for pushing Mary Jane to the next movie is entirely creative and to add more emotional depth: "Emma Stone's character dies in the next film and that really would take a bunch out of the film if Spider-Man all the sudden starts dating a new girl so close to an important characters death. They were noticing this occurring as they filmed Shailene's scenes. They want to make the death of Gwen Stacy really mean something and then it will leave room for Shailene to shine in the third film."

However, they might not be any Shailene to shine in the third movie. A recent interview with MTV brought up her return in the third movie. The context of this interview is that the actress was already signed for two "Divergent" sequels. Her answer, transcribed by Comicbookmovie: "I don't know anything, but seeing as how they picked up the next two Divergent films, I don't know how I'd keep my sanity with two big action films in one year. But, anything can happen, so..."

Shailene Woodley's new situation places her in a similar predicament with Jennifer Lawrence, star of "The Hunger Games" franchise. Lawrence was rumored to request an exit from her X-Men duties to concentrate on the sequels of The Hunger Games where she is the lead star.
