NBA Trade Rumors – Greg Monroe On Wizards’ Radar; Will Gortat And Ariza Contracts Be Enough? Pistons Front Office In Turmoil!

Greg Monroe has long been on the NBA Trade Rumors radar. The only thing that stops teams from making aggressive offers is his impending Restrcited Free Agency.

Restricted Free Agency means his home team will have the right to match any offer that the player signs. Detroit has that privilege, and they have expiring contracts that can make sure they have the financial guns to keep the former Georgetown Hoya in Motor City. The question though, is why would they? The Tall Three (not Big) is not turning out as well as planned.

The Washington Wizards, just like Detroit, are gunning for a deep playoff run. However, they also fell prey to high expectations. They traded for Marcin Gortat before the season and they are now dead even at 20-20, but their playoff spot is not safe.

As reported by Basketball Insiders' Alex Kennedy: "One team that is interested in Monroe is the Washington Wizards, according to multiple league sources. It's becoming clear that Washington is planning to pursue Monroe, either through trade or free agency."

Another young stud to pair with John Wall would be a great foundation for the future Wizards. If they can trade for the rights to Monroe, then they can be assured to have him in their fold for the long term.

From the ESPN Trade Machine, a trade of Greg Monroe, Jonas Jerebko and Will Bynum to the Wizards for Marcin Gortat and Trevor Ariza (both expiring) can work. This would allow the Pistons to unload their unwanted contracts (they already have cheaper alternatives for Jerebko and Bynum) and pursue another free agent this offseason (they have almost $30 million off their cap). For the Wizards, they will have Greg Monroe.

The problem with the Pistons, though, is that their front office is in turmoil. Also from Kennedy: "The Pistons are certainly a team to keep an eye on over the next month. Rival executives have said that there is 'turmoil' within the organization and that they haven't decided what to do as the deadline approaches."

The Pistons have one month before the trade deadline. Monroe might walk away for nothing, and the best offer may pass them by.
