‘Iron Man 4' Vs 'Batman Vs Superman?' Will Marvel Pit Tony Stark Against The Man Of Steel In May 2016?

The First Week of May, 2016 will feature a titanic showdown between "Batman Vs Superman" will face off against an unnamed Marvel movie. Will they pull off "Iron Man 4?"

When Warner Bros. delayed the release of 'Batman Vs Superman' by ten months, it was well aware that they were crossing Marvel territory.  A Marvel character movie has been released at this time since May 2002 (Spider Man) and Marvel Studios had their winning streak at this date. From 2008's "Iron Man," 2010's "Iron Man 2" 2011's "Thor," 2012's "The Avengers" and last year's "Iron Man 3." Marvel has actually booked the dates until 2021. From Wired, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige boldly claims:

"I could arguably say what we're planning for the year 2021. Will that happen? I don't know. But what we planned for 2015 in 2006 is happening. Five years ago, looking at our plan, we knew that if Avengers was going to work, the movies had to stand alone. Now we have to prove to the studio that we're more than just these five characters, these five franchises."

The announcement would probably take place this year, but the big question is, will they change their plans in light of Warner Bros. challenge?

There are two ways to answer this. Marvel has reserved the biggest films of the year for the May playdate. From "Thor" to "The Avengers" to "Iron Man 3" (definitely bigger than Thor 2) they would reserve the smaller film to a later playdate. If the movies for 2016 are "Thor 3" and "Doctor Strange/Black Panther," it will probably place "Thor 3" in May. That would be quite a showdown!

However, "Thor: The Dark World" lost slightly to "Man Of Steel" this year. This might cause Marvel to think twice, since "Batman Vs Superman" is projected to be a stronger film. They cannot accelerate the timeline for "Avengers 3" just a year removed from the second installment.

Warner Bros. also has its share of bravado courtesy of Warners president of international distribution Veronika Kwan Vandenberg. From The Hollywood Reporter: "We know that there is already great anticipation building for the next superhero film from Zack Snyder, and we are equally eager to see what he has in store for Superman and Batman as they share the big screen for the first time ever." To show that they are not backing down, they have filled up the July 17, 2015 slot with Joe Wright's Peter Pan movie.

Only Tony Stark can have the clout to challenge Warner Bros. flagship superhero project. The stakes are suddenly higher, will Marvel man up or will they just back down from the pressure?

May 6, 2016 is marked date. Which movie will you watch?
