Windows 8.1 Update Marks The Return Of More Desktop Features, Including Direct Boot To Desktop By Default

Even after the Windows 8.1 update, users are still complaining about the often clunky and crowded Metro user interface. And if that's the case, Microsoft could be thinking of bringing back the good old days with the desktop mode.

In a report by The Verge, Microsoft has been getting feedback from users for its Windows 8.1 operating system, and most of these people apparently still use a mouse and keyboard to do their daily tasks. As it appears, the Redmond giant is slowly bringing back the desktop mode.

When Windows 8.1 was launched last year, it brought back the Start button, though at that time most people were clueless as to what its purpose would be. New rumors claim that the next update will have a Start menu for better program or application management and accessibility.

According to the report, Microsoft is slowly bringing back some desktop features in the previous updates. And when the first update arrives in March, users may be able to choose to boot to desktop by default - completely free from the Metro UI live tiles.

In fact, the report claims that the upcoming version of Windows which would be released some time in 2015, may as well be referred to as Windows 7 as it looks more like the previous version rather than a re-engineered one.

So, do you think the direct boot to desktop for Windows 8.1 is a cool feature?
