Upcoming Sony Laptops 2014: Vaio Branding Could Soon Have A New Owner As Japanese Manufacturer Plans On Selling Laptop Division

For almost a decade, the Vaio lineup has been one of the premium brands in the laptop industry. But it looks like Sony may be planning on moving on and focusing on the smartphone and tablet market instead.

That means if you are looking for upcoming Sony laptops in 2014, you would not find any once the rumored deal has been made.

According to a report by Japanese news site Nikkei, Sony is planning to sell its Vaio division and branding, following a dismal performance in the laptop market in recent years.

Indeed, Sony continues to develop cutting-edge laptops with admirable designs and high-end specs, but most consumers nowadays are already looking towards tablet hybrids which have detachable keyboards, providing more portability.

Last year, Sony tried to lure in tablet lovers with its convertible laptops bearing the Vaio name. Unfortunately, these devices also performed poorly compared to other brands such as Lenovo, which offers same-spec'd laptops at cheaper prices.

In this alleged move by Sony, the Japanese tech giant would eventually focus its resources on the mobile and tablet industries where it has been performing fairly well.

If you own a Vaio laptop now, you may want to treasure it 'cause it might be the last Sony-made laptop you will ever have.
