Shirley Temple Black Dead At 85; George Clooney, James Franco, And Other Celebrities Post Farewell Messages To Hollywood's 'Youngest Star'

Hollywood legend Shirley Temple Black died at the age of 85 because of "natural causes". More than being a film and television actress, she was similarly tasked as America's ambassador to Ghana and Czechoslovakia. Several celebrities have expressed grief upon finding out about Shirley Temple Black's death.

"Watching clips of her, it's so amazing that she was such a part of our film history from the very beginning," wrote actor George Clooney.

Joan Rivers also shared her sentiments on Twitter: "Rest in peace, Shirley Temple Black. I know that you're sailing up and away on the Good Ship."

"One of the most talented and brightest stars in the world has gone to the sky. A genuine phenomenon," was how film critic Leonard Maltin described Shirley Temple Black.

'Star Trek' actor George Takei thanks the actress for making people happy in a time (Great Depression) where many were in despair: "She brought much joy to so many during a time of great suffering. Dance, laugh and twinkle amongst the stars now, Shirley Temple."

Emmy Rossum also didn't waste time in expressing how the actress influenced her: "[She was my] first acting inspiration. Shirley Temple. Rest in peace."

James Franco's Facebook post hints the challenges that come with being Tinseltown's child star: "We love you Shirley Temple. Love to all the child stars, grown before their times."

Shirley Temple Black started her career in 1932 when she was three years old. Being a child star wasn't easy which made her resign at the tender age of 22. She then came back in 1958 for a fairy tale anthology series.

Aside from being board members of several giant organizations such as Del Monte Foods and The Walt Disney Company, her contributions as the US Ambassador to Ghana in 1974 and to Czechoslovakia in 1989 were highly celebrated.

In 1988, she was able to publish an autobiography entitled 'Child Star'.

"We salute her for a life of remarkable achievements as an actor, as a diplomat, and most importantly as our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and adored wife for 55 years of the late and much missed Charles Alden Black," read her family's official statement.
