Girls’ Generation’s (SNSD) Yuri “I Fall Very Often But I Never Give Up”

Yuri wearing a yellow jacket dragging a cloth hanger while talking on the cell phone enters. She surprises Yoo Ah In enjoying a bath in the tub and hides. She seems indifferent about the situation and tells him, “I don’t have time so come on get out.”

This is the first scene where two of them are meeting in New York on the third episode of ‘Fashion King.’ Yuri’s line was all in English. The last line of ‘get out’ was to have pronounced perfectly conveying the indifferent yet irritated mode perfectly. She was not only speaking English like a native but was able to convey her emotions at the same time. She has not lived overseas like Girls’ Generation member Tiffany or Jessica.

“I wanted to act since I was a trainee like about 7-8 years before my debut, probably been like 10 years. I received acting classes continuously and read scenarios alone. Then I was casted in a drama which made me very happy. I met with the director ten times before the shooting. As the director didn’t know me well either, and couldn’t identify my acting level so he shared a lot of advice. More than anything I was mostly worried about the fact that I needed to act in English. Anna is a famous senior designer in New York so she should not only speak fluently but must be able to convey the emotional details well. I practiced carrying a tape recorder and camcorder, to record and listen repeatedly.”

Girls’ Generation member Yoon also appeared in ‘You are My Destiny’ in 2008 and Jessica recently on ‘Wild Romance.’ Considering the fact that Yoona, “wanted to act and have been preparing for 10 years,” she had a late start. The drama that has aired the 14th episode so far she was not criticized for her acting skills, unlike other members.

“That is just like my personality. Pretty similar to Anna. I want to show a more complete state. I want to show a more sincere image to others whether it be English, acting, singing, dancing. To convey that kind of image I must be familiar with it and to become familiar I must put in numerous practice and effort. I think that’s why I took me a bit longer.”

Recently Yuri was selected as having the best figure among girl group members by international k-pop fans on MBC ‘Show Champion.’ Even Girls’ Generation members shared, “We are envious of Yuri’s healthy figure.” Also while making an appearance on SBS ‘Victory’ trainer Sean Lee commented, “Other members in the group are naturally born with their body figure such as Sooyoung. But Yuri’s figure is made by her efforts. Her body figure is a result of consistent exercise.”

Girls’ Generation’s training choreographer Shim Jae Won shared, “The ones who stand one stage, and receive criticism are themselves so even if it’s one performance that doesn’t go as practiced then it’s traumatizing. Even if it’s a stage that they dreamed of it no longer bring them joy.” This is probably truer for groups like Girls’ Generation that needs to continuously grow and receive attention where ever they are. That is why her words cannot be taken lightly, “Although it looks glamorous there is even more effort that is spent which is unseen.”

“There have been many stones on my path, which frequently made me trip and give up, however I keep telling myself this is only momentary, I will get back up. Since it’s our responsibility to return back the love that we have received from so many. That is why no matter how difficult or tough it becomes I cannot let go. And that is why no matter how difficult it becomes we are able to gain strength.”

Even among the nine members Yuri is well known for being a hard worker. Soon SM will be releasing a documentary that reveals SM artists lives soon. There were character posters revealed along with a quote Yuri wrote, “I fall very often but I never give up.”
